About 400 tonnes of logs and a selection of sawn timber are up for auction on Saturday 24 November in Western Australia. The auction, for timber from the South West and Goldfields regions, will take place at the WA Forest Products Commission Harvey Mill. It will kick off at 10am. The commission said these timbers included a quality selection of marri, jarrah burls (whole and sliced), blackbutt, sheoak and wandoo.
Also, up for sale is a variety of Goldfields timber species, including mulga, sandalwood, gimlet, salmon gum, redwood, Goldfields blackbutt and western myall.
Many of these Goldfields timbers have been sourced from logs salvaged from various land clearing projects such as mining and road construction.
Sawn timber on offer will be cut into sizes to suit furniture making, wood-turning and carving.
The feature timbers contain popular characteristics such as curly grain and birdseye. “The Goldfields timbers are very dense and possess a particularly magnificent colour and grain,” an FPC spokeswoman said.
The timber can be inspected at 64 Weir Rd, Harvey between 10am and 3pm on Friday 23 November. Those wishing to arrange an inspection before the auction should contact Mr Steve Davis from the FPC on (0427) 380632 or [email protected].
This will be the fourth auction held by FPC this year. The others were in April, June and September. The April and September sales were also held at Harvey while the June event was at Manjimup.
FPC’s senior timber assessor, Steve Davis, told Daily Timber News that up to 400 tonnes of log product and 10 cubic metres of sawn timber was made available to the public at each auction.
The highly sought-after Goldfields timbers sold for as much as $13,000 peer cubic metre, he said.
