The 2020 NZ Wood Resene Timber Design Awards are just one of the latest to fall victim to COVID-19 with the March 26 dinner and awards presentation cancelled. Also cancelled is the Wood Processors and Manufacturers Association NZ Wood Design Guide Seminar planned for the same day. Source: Timberbiz
In a statement released this week WPMA CEO Jon Tanner said the WPMA had been closely monitoring COVID-19 developments, in particular the recommendations for precautions to limit the spread of COVID-19 from the NZ Ministry of Health and other international health authorities.
“In the past 24 hours, we have seen an escalation in these, including by the NZ Government yesterday, advising against holding mass/close proximity gatherings, as well as increasing numbers of companies acting to constrain staff travel and meetings,” he said.
As a result, the dinner and seminar has been cancelled.
WPMA will be providing full reimbursement of the ticket costs for the dinner.
The dinner is the culmination of eight months of running the National Timber Design Competition.
“We have some fantastic finalists and winners who are pushing wood-based design to new levels,” Mr Tanner said.
“These will now be promoted across New Zealand and internationally as planned in our follow-up media campaign and we will continue to build on the high degree of interest already shown in our NZ Wood Design Guide Series.”
