As part of the ‘plain language’ re-drafting aspect of the four yearly review of modern awards, the Fair Work Commission recently made a number of changes to the Timber Industry Award 2020. Source: Timberbiz
While many of the changes are, as the name suggests, ‘plain language’ amendments, there are also other changes of which members should be aware.
The Timber Award covers employers and their employees working with timber and wood who fit within the classifications of the award and are in the following sectors:
- harvesting and forestry management
- milling and processing
- panel products
- manufacturing
- merchandising and retailing
- pulp and paper.
Timber and wood includes any artificial, laminated or manufactured material that are made, constructed or manufactured, which is or can be used in the place of wood or timber, and worked in a similar manner as wood or timber.
The Timber Industry Award also covers labour hire businesses and their employees who are placed with an organisation within the timber industry.
Check the award for full information on who is covered and the classification descriptions.
