Metsä Group’s apprenticeship training is an excellent path towards varied and responsible production and maintenance duties in the forest industry.

“We’re looking for persons who have the willingness and motivation to learn and develop their skills and from whom we will train top professionals in the forest industry,” Pertti Hietaniemi, Metsä Group’s Senior Vice President, HR said.

The eighteen-month paid apprenticeship program is suitable for recent graduates, people already working in the field, as well as those changing careers.

“The operating model of Metsä Group’s production units builds on the personnel’s multiple skill set and our broad apprenticeship training provides a solid foundation for this,” Mr Hietaniemi said.

“It’s also an excellent and practical way to transfer the skills and knowledge of retiring experts to future professionals well in advance.”

In the apprenticeship training program, successful applicants can complete a further vocational qualification, specialising in the wood product or process industry, electrical engineering and automation technology, machine mechanics and maintenance, or the sawmill industry.

The studies and competence demonstrations will be completed in an employment relationship during which the students are members of our work community, entitling them to the same employment benefits as permanent employees.

After their training, the participants can work as, for example, process operators, operators and maintenance personnel at Metsä Group’s pulp, paperboard and tissue paper mills, sawmills and Kerto and plywood mills. A suitable educational background for the selected apprentices is a vocational qualification in electrical engineering and automation technology, process technology or mechanical engineering, or an engineering degree from a university of applied sciences.

The final application date for the training beginning in January 2024 is 30 September 2023. This recruitment is carried out anonymously.
