Mr Toole defeated Water Minister and member for Oxley Melinda Pavey in a secret ballot at NSW Parliament to win the leadership and replace John Barilaro who announced his retirement from politics.
Mr Toole won, 15 votes to 3, with Bronnie Taylor elected as the Nationals’ deputy leader.
“Right now, timber supply constraints for new construction are biting and the need to get more production trees planted is urgent. There are also great opportunities for our forest industries to tackle climate change,” AFPA NSW CEO Sue Grau said.
“Mr Toole already has a strong understanding of our industries, having previously served as Minister for Lands and Forestry and serving in the Bathurst electorate which includes forestry plantations and processors,” she said.
“I look forward to meeting with Mr Toole to fully brief him on the challenges and opportunities for our great businesses providing economic activity and employment across NSW.
“We will continue to work with the NSW Government and Mr Toole to support our value chain from seed to tree, to the products we love and use every day in the state.”
