Approval has been given to Harris Jenkins Architects for an office tower to be built from CLT. It will be located adjacent to the Kings Square development in the heart of the Fremantle CBD, this six storey building plus roof terrace will be Western Australia’s first CLT (Cross Laminated Timber) Office Building. It features a number of other cutting edge sustainable initiatives. Such as, solar energy and battery storage, green facades, renewable construction materials and water management systems.
Brad Pettitt, mayor of Fremantle, told Architecture Au that the council was pleased with the sustainable credentials of the building.
“In recent years in Fremantle we’ve seen the construction of some really exciting sustainable buildings that are better places to live and work in, better for the environment and cheaper to operate,” he said.
“To be home to WA’s first timber-framed office building will only enhance Fremantle’s reputation as a leader in sustainable development.”
