For the past four decades, Terry Berkin has made a living from forestry, but now he’s decided it’s time to call it quits. He has put his Orange-based machinery up for sale (which includes small contract work) and his seachange will take him to King Island (in Bass Strait just off Tasmania) where he and his wife Alma (“her real name is Maria, but everyone knows her as Alma”) will run “a few hundred head of cattle, some sheep, some sheepdogs and some chooks”. In the meantime, Berkin waits in Orange to finalise the sale of his equipment which, he says, is in pristine condition.
