FWPA and stakeholders from across the domestic forest and wood products sector have been supportive of the bid to host the 2025 WCTE in the Queensland state capital and are thrilled to have secured the event.
The conference will provide an ideal opportunity for the local industry to showcase Australian research developments, as well as to put a spotlight on strong examples of domestic next-generation buildings that have successfully incorporated timber products.
The scope of the WCTE covers research, education and best practice topics from all over the world, and regularly attracts widespread international representation and attendance.
Between 800 and 1,200 participants typically attend each conference, held every other year on a different continent. The event brings together researchers, engineers, architects, consultants, contractors, project managers, suppliers, and manufacturers from across the globe.
The Brisbane event will follow this year’s WCTE in Santiago, Chile (although this was ultimately adapted to be virtual), and the planned 2023 event in Oslo, Norway.
The WCTE is the latest exciting addition to the list of international events headed for our shores, including the 2023 IRG Annual Meeting on Wood Protection due to be held in Cairns via the National Centre for Timber Durability, and a meeting of the Society of Wood Science and Technology scheduled for Brisbane in 2022.
These events not only provide an opportunity for Australia to highlight its work on a global scale, but also offer easier access for local industry to attend, hear from world leaders in their fields, and network with international delegates.
