“Penny Wells has very ably led a positive transformation of Private Forests Tasmania to align it with the emerging challenges of farm foresters and the institutional forestry sector,” the Chair of Private Forests Tasmania Board Evan Rolley said.
“Penny’s leadership is highly regarded in the forestry sector and we support Penny in her decision to transition and prioritise her health.”
The Board, working with the State Government, will begin recruiting to deliver leadership that will continue the growing momentum of Private Forests Tasmania programs and deliver the strategic objectives.
Mr Rolley said Ms Wells has been working with the government in forestry-related roles for 35 years, which was a remarkable contribution in any context.
“Private Forests Tasmania has been very fortunate to have Penny’s experience and passion at the helm, and to have her support in the leadership transition,” he said.
“I have loved working in the forestry sector, and in particular working with PFT over the past five years,” Ms Wells said.
“I am passionate about growing trees which is something I am looking forward to doing more of on our family property in the future.”
