The South-East Forestry Industry Roundtable is now examining the draft to ensure that community concerns about a forward sale have been taken into account. Chairman Trevor Smith says a crucial stage of the sale process has now been reached.
“It’s very important that in fact those conditions are now enacted and that is to ensure that the new owner, should the sale go ahead successfully, clearly knows what their roles and responsibilities are and their obligations both to the industry and the community in general,” he said.
“The roundtable is obviously aware that industry stakeholders and the community, in particular in the south-east, are seeking comfort that the negotiations that have occurred over the last 12 months are in fact going to be given effect to and we believe this process that we’ve embarked upon will deliver that comfort.”
