In June this year, the New South Wales (NSW) Government announced it would invest over four years $70+ million to support the forest industry in NSW. Source: Timberbiz
The announcement included $4.6 million to support training and accreditation for forestry contractors.
This part of the funding followed ongoing discussions between government and industry regarding the importance of supporting continual learning and development, access to training along with a need to recognise skills and the professionalism of contracting businesses. Since the funding announcement, AFCA has been considering various models and programs that already exist in this space, both within other industries as well as international forestry examples.
AFCA has commenced work on a proposed project outline for a Contractor Certification program to be developed. In the coming months, it is expected that further discussions weill occur with the NSW Government as well as industry to explore how the program could be developed and delivered in NSW.
