A forestry workbook for high school students has been officially unveiled at a conference for Geography teachers in Western Australia. “The booklets have been created over the last few months and will be used at the Mundaring Discovery Forest by year 11 and 12 students studying geography,” Ms Eliot said.
The booklets were unveiled at the Geographical Association of Western Australia Conference: Western Australian Geography Curriculum, which also included a field trip to the Mundaring Discovery Forest.
“Mr Brittain and Richard Olive from DBCA took the teachers through the booklet in the forest at Mundaring, showing them how the kids would use it and giving the teachers some hands-on experience,” Ms Eliot said.
Now that the teachers are familiar with the workbooks, they’ll have an opportunity to integrate them into their lesson plans ahead of the next academic year.
“It’s exciting for the FPC to be finally back in the education space and for us to be teaching the benefits of sustainable forestry to the next generation,” Ms Eliot said.
