IRC Skills Forecasts and Proposed Schedules of Work identifies skills gaps and emerging skills needs within training packages for 2018-2020.
Priority projects identified and proposed by the IRCs in the 2018 edition of the Skills Forecasts for development include the Forest and Wood Products Training Package:
- Forest management and harvesting
- Harvesting technologies for the future
- Forest management innovation
- Wood chip export at the portside
- Timber and wood processing
- Sawmill timber and process optimisation
- Advances in wood machining and saw doctoring
- Timber product development and supply chain innovation
- Bioenergy, co-generation and biochar
- Timber building solutions
- Timber truss and frame estimating and design
- Advanced sales, marketing and customer service skills
And also includes the Pulp and Paper Manufacturing Training Package:
- Pulp and paper manufacturing
- Recycling and de-inking recovered paper
- Bioenergy technologies
- Leadership skills in pulp and paper
- Paper product chain of custody and sustainability skills at all occupational levels
- Bio-refining
- Automated processes in converted paper manufacturing

The IRC Skills Forecasts and Proposed Schedules of Work will be submitted to the Australian Industry Skills Committee (AISC) by the end of April 2018, which will draw on the information to update the AISC National Schedule of training package development work to determine future Training Package
