For the last eight years, FWPA funding has allowed outstanding students to attend the World Conference on Timber Engineering (WCTE). This year eight students were awarded a $3500 bursary to attend the WCTE in Seoul, South Korea. Source: Timberbiz
The students are all post-graduates who have chosen timber as the main theme of their research. One of the chosen students was Rebecca Cherry, who said the experience was invaluable.
“The conference provided excellent networking opportunities for me. I learnt a lot from the presentations about a range of research topics and methodologies which relate to my own work,” said Ms Cherry. “I also found talking with so many other timber-focused PhD students very helpful and motivating.”
Ms Cherry is an industry-based student working with Hyne Timber while she completes her PhD through the Centre for Future Materials at the University of Southern Queensland.
