The awards have been progressively announced over the past week in a virtual setting in lieu of the customary gala award night.
Mr Nunn will now represent Victoria at the Australian Training Awards 20 November, as well as a cash prize of $5000 and a 2020 Victorian Training Awards trophy.
For Bairnsdale-based Kevin Nunn, the award has put him into the unfamiliar spotlight, but one that is deeply satisfying.
“I’ve always been a team player and I work with a lot of really amazing people in TAFE Gippsland and in the timber community,” he said.
“My thanks to the people who had faith in me as a timber trainer and who put me forward for this award. I’m just very happy that the work we do in training future timber workers to keep our community safe and the local timber industry vibrant, has been recognised.”
The Teacher/Trainer of the Year Award recognises innovation and excellence by a teacher or trainer providing nationally-recognised training to students in the TAFE and training sector.
TAFE Gippsland’s Chief Executive Mr Grant Radford said Mr Nunn was a deserving and worthy winner in 2020.
“All of us at TAFE Gippsland are absolutely delighted and proud of Kevin’s achievement and we warmly congratulate him on this very prestigious award,” Mr Radford said.
“The VTA award is a recognition of not only his personal standing as a timber trainer within TAFE, but also as a hard-working community recovery leader in East Gippsland following the summer fires.”
