Tasmania’s largest construction company is to buy the construction division of timber giant Gunns.
Hazell Brothers has signed an “in principal” agreement to acquire Hinman, Wright and Manser.
It says the transition will happen as existing Hinman, Wright and Manser projects are completed.
Hazell Brothers is Tasmania’s largest civil and building construction company with 560 staff.
Chief executive, Bob Bennetto, says Hinman, Wright and Manser has more than 30 employees.
“The intention is for us to take over all of their employees,” he said.
“We see it as an opportunity for us to expand our base in northern Tasmania where we probably have a smaller presence than we have down in the southern part.
“It also gives us greater skill depth with a wider range of people at all levels.”
He says Hazell Brothers will work with Gunns to provide certainty for employees of Hinman, Wright and Manser.
Last month Hazell Brothers acquired the assets and operations of Lund Constructions and Lund Plant Hire in Queensland.
