Forest Policy Officer, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, Dr Lyndall Bull, Director of Research Capability at the Indigenous Knowledge Institute, A/Prof Michael-Shawn Fletcher, and Principal and consultant at Thoughtscapes, NZ, Chris Perley were among the first speakers announced as the preliminary program was released.

Forestry Australia CEO Jacquie Martin said the theme of the Symposium – Leading, adapting and reimagining, the future of forestry – aimed to facilitate conversation and explore strategies that address and create a bright and innovative future for forestry in Australia.
“After months of planning, we are delighted to reveal our preliminary program and first group of keynote speakers for the 2022 Forestry Australia Symposium, which aims to build on the success of our 2021 National Conference” Ms Martin said.
“We can’t wait to bring together the best minds from diverse corners of the sector to map out the future of forestry, so that it can continue to benefit Australia and Australians for generations to come.”
Symposium Convenor, Jim Wilson said the 2022 Symposium would continue Forestry Australia’s momentum in the pursuit of well managed forests and a better future.
“Well managed, sustainable forestry has so much to offer Australian society if we can collaborate and tackle the challenges and opportunities ahead of us together,” he said.
“Forestry Australia continues to gain momentum as the national leader in the profession of forestry, and the 2022 Symposium aims to advance the many opportunities ahead for well managed forests and a better future.
“Forest Policy Officer, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, Dr Lyndall Bull will draw on her extensive experience across the global forest sector to present ‘Reimagining forestry in Australia through a global filter’.
“Director of Research Capability at the Indigenous Knowledge Institute and the Associate Dean (Indigenous) in the Faculty of Science at the University of Melbourne, A/Prof Michael-Shawn Fletcher will cover ‘Embracing Traditional knowledge and leading change to collaborate with Traditional Owner as forest managers.
“Chris Perley, Principal and consultant at Thoughtscapes will combine philosophical and scientific thinking in his session on ‘Leading, adapting and reimagining – the future of forestry.
“All three of these speakers are not-to-be-missed, and we look forward to announcing more thought-provoking talent in the lead up to October.”
The Forestry Australia 2002 Symposium will be held both in person and online from Thursday 20 – Saturday 22 October at the Albury Entertainment Centre, Albury NSW.
