An international Wood Manifesto setting the future roadmap for timber and wood use in construction and other products will be launched in the UK this week ahead of the COP26 talks. Source: Timberbiz
The manifesto – Growing Our Low-Carbon Future: Time for Timber – is a collaboration of work led by the global wood industry’s COP26 International Partners Advisory Body as well as the European Confederation of Woodworking Industries and the European Organisation of the Sawmill Industry, as well as other international partners.
“The use of wood, timber and other fibre products is revolutionising the planet, from sustainable construction of mid- and high-rise buildings to single-use plastic replacements made from paper and cardboard,” AFPA CEO Ross Hampton said.
“The world is realising that forest industries will be major part of the solution to combating climate change this century,” Mr Hampton, who is also chairman of the UN Advisory Committee of Sustainable Forest Based Industries, and a member of the global wood industry’s COP26 International Partners Advisory Body, said.
“The UN’s own science has found that timber sourced from sustainably managed forests makes the greatest impact, mitigating carbon.”
“A sustainable forest management strategy aimed at maintaining or increasing forest carbon stocks, while producing an annual sustained yield of timber, fibre or energy from the forest, will generate the largest sustained mitigation benefit.”

“As such, this Wood Manifesto will be an important part of the direction going forward to harness the power of our sustainable wood and timber resources,” Mr Hampton said.
The Wood Manifesto will be launched tomorrow at the Royal Institute for British Architecture, and as part of the broader Built Environment Summit. Internationally leading engineered timber architect Andrew Waugh will launch the Manifesto.
