Kangaroos in the forests of India

The headline read Smuggled kangaroos leave Indian forestry officials mystified, not surprisingly as many had never seen a kangaroo before and certainly not in their forest in east India around 5000 kilometres from Australia. Source: Timberbiz

In the upper reaches of the state of West Bengal in April a pair of kangaroos were seen bouncing around the forest and onto the highway. These Australians have since gone viral after bemused drivers took phone videos and posted them on social platforms.

The live kangaroos were in a very distressed state and others were found dead by a team of rangers near a forest in Babgram.

These were not escapees from a zoo, but it appears that there is a smuggling exercise going which it has been suggested may involve the Roos being sent to Switzerland for pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry testing.

India has no laws under which you can be arrested or prosecuted for possessing exotic species only for smuggling.
