Transport and load safety training will be provided to attendees on the day, as part of Australian Forest Contractors Association’s (AFCA) Professional Ownership and Driver Wellbeing (PODW) initiative.
This nation-wide program is supported by the Federal Government and National Heavy Vehicle Regulator, as an education tool for forest industry management and staff most at risk of a heavy vehicle accident.
The PODW training presentation focuses on the human factors – fatigue, inattention and complacency – involved in transport accidents.
It will be facilitated by AFCA’s Alan Pincot and trucking accident survivor turned safety speaker, James Woods.
ForestrySA Manager Work Health Safety and Compliance Amie Power said more than 45 local timber industry representatives were already registered to attend.
“Decisions made at work have the ability to change our personal lives forever,” she said.
“ForestrySA has a strong work safety culture and we are looking forward to shining the spotlight on safety with our contractors and industry members.
“This event is a great opportunity for members of the Mount Lofty Ranges forestry industry to hear from speakers with a wealth of knowledge and who understand the importance of road safety and a ‘safety-first’ approach to doing our jobs.”
The road transport safety training workshop will be held at the Hahndorf Old Mill Hotel on September 23 from 8am to 2pm.
