The European Commission (EC) has launched a public consultation to help develop an integrated EU approach to combatting deforestation, protecting forests and promoting sustainable supply chains. The consultation runs from 14 January to 25 February 2019. Source: Timberbiz
Individuals and organisations with an interest in deforestation and forest degradation can take part in the consultation by visiting a webpage to access a questionnaire that is available in 23 EU languages.
This questionnaire aims to collect views of all stakeholders on the problem and how the European Union can address it. It also gives stakeholders the opportunity to identify the main drivers of deforestation and forest degradation and to indicate EU policy areas and potential interventions that they consider as having the biggest potential to contribute to addressing deforestation and forest degradation.
Everybody is invited to respond to the questionnaire, regardless of the level of expertise. The received contributions will be summarised and published on the same webpage.
The EC will use the feedback it receives to develop an EU Communication on Stepping up EU Action against Deforestation and Forest Degradation.
The Communication will aim to increase the coherence of existing EU policies and tools, while mainstreaming deforestation considerations throughout the relevant EU policies.
It will also aim to improve the implementation and communication of actions already undertaken by the EU, support commitments by governments and the private sector, and promote collaboration and exchange of good practices.
