The inaugural trophy and a $2000 study-assistance bursary were presented at an AFS Ltd dinner in Melbourne last year to Dr Marie Yee, a senior conservation planner with Forestry Tasmania.
The trophy recognises the outstanding contribution to sustainable forest management made by the late Richard Stanton in Australia and internationally.
Mr Stanton was CEO of Australian Forestry Standard Ltd. He had previously held a number of key roles in the Australian Plantation Products and Paper Industry Council (A3P); Australian Paper Industry Council; Plantation Timber Association of Australia; National Association of Forest Industries; and State Forests NSW.
The award is offered to all individuals contributing to sustainable forest management under AS4708 or chain-of-custody under AS4707 or the PEFC International Standard.
It is open to, but not restricted to forest owners and managers; chain-of-custody certificate holders; staff of certification bodies; forest scientists and researchers; and designers of products manufactured from sustainable timber.
Applicants need to have demonstrated significant and valuable contribution to sustainability, innovation, improvement or excellence in forest management or CoC certification, a strong commitment to the AFS certification scheme and sustainable forest management, and innovation and improvement in the promotion and marketing of AFS certified products.

Closing date for the 2016 Richard Stanton Award is 3 October.
Selection of the successful applicant shall be made by the AFS marketing committee.
