In the lead up to the recent State Election, the Labor Party committed to a deep and detailed forest industries policy aimed squarely at investing in the future, growing more fibre and supporting increased wood and paper product manufacturing here in South Australia.
SAFPA Chief Executive Officer Nathan Paine said this budget starts the hard work on delivering on the Government’s commitments.
“As the world enters a period of fibre shortage and now that we have a better understanding of the critical importance of fibre security, SAFPA welcomes the Government’s commitment to the industry and the region especially the commitment to work with the industry to grow jobs and investment not just in the South East but across South Australia,” he said.
“The forest industries in South Australia plays a big role in creating jobs and economic growth across the State and the investment by Government will be a critical factor in driving new growth and both more jobs in the industry but also all the jobs in the residential construction sector which relies heavily on fibre security.
“This budget has invested in a region and an industry that will not only deliver for the people of the Limestone Coast but around the State and SAFPA looks forward to working with the Government on implementing its commitments,” Mr Paine said.
