“The future of Australian fisheries, aquaculture, horticulture and forestry relies on sustainable and smart farming practices,” Senator Colbeck said.
“Through Smart Farming Partnerships, we are giving those within these industries the opportunity to make their innovative ideas a reality.
“The Federal Government has a major role in agricultural research and development, and grants can be used to fund research, trials or projects that promote sustainable farming.
“Through round one of the program, the Tasmanian Seafood Industry Council received around $1.5 million for a project that will improve marine biodiversity outcomes in Tasmanian multi-use waterways by building on established partnerships between industry, government, NRM and Landcare groups and the community.
“This will support sustainable seafood production, natural resource management (NRM) and effective conservation and restoration of marine biodiversity in the state.
“There are also opportunities for those involved in farm forestry and agroforestry that are trialling or developing innovative technologies and methods.
“I encourage anyone within the fisheries, aquaculture, horticulture and forestry industry with a smart, sustainable farming idea to apply.”
The second and final round of Smart Farming Partnerships is now open. It opened on 19 March 2019 and will close 17 May 2019. The guidelines and application form can be accessed at GrantConnect.
