All national winners enter the international contest for the chance to become the 2021 ‘PEFC Photographer of the Year’.
The Spanish jury had the difficult task to choose the three winners out of the over 120 photos that entered the contest.
The winning images impressed with a sense of mystic and magic, showing the many different sides of forests and nature.
Miguel Díaz-Fernández won first prize for his photo “Kockelscheuer Lake”, taken in Kockelscheuer, Luxembourg.
“The morning mist on the Kockelscheuer lake gives a mystical touch and transmits its irresistible peace to the spirit of the beholder,” said Mr Díaz-Fernández.
Ángel Morales came in second with the photo “Portal Mágico” (Magic Portal). Taken in Castellbell i el Vilar in Catalonia, Spain, the photo reveals an impressive view of a forest and a mountain chain.
Third place went to Rubén Domínguez for the photo “Vía Verde” (Green Street), taken in Benicàssim in Eastern Spain.
“By recovering an old railway track, an area of Mediterranean woodland parallel to the sea that links Benicàssim with Oropesa del Mar is rehabilitated,” he explained.
PEFC Spain’s contest was one of 11 national photo contests run by PEFC members. For the fifth time, photographers and forest lovers were invited to enter their images into the national photo contests with 5000 photos received from forests around the world.
Besides national prizes, the best photos from the national contests will enter the international contest. The overall winner will be announced in November and will receive a cash prize. The top 12 photos will be featured in the 2022 PEFC photo calendar.
