The Forest Products Commission (FPC) is expecting spirited bidding from wood enthusiasts and craftspeople when approximately 650 tonnes of assorted timber species, from the South West and Goldfields regions, are auctioned at the FPC Harvey Mill on Saturday, 6 May 2017. Source: Timberbiz
Going under the hammer is an assortment of South West native forest speciality feature logs and exotic timbers, including a quality selection of marri, karri, jarrah (logs and featured slabs), jarrah burls (whole and sliced), blackbutt, sheoak, tuart, woody pear, sugar gum (kiln dried boards), manna gum (kiln dried boards), poplar, box tree and olive.
Also available will be a variety of Goldfields timber species including sandalwood, gimlet, salmon gum, redwood, Goldfields blackbutt and western myall.
Many of these timbers have been salvaged from various land clearing projects such as mining and road construction.
A small amount will be on offer as sawn slabs and boards, with some Goldfields timbers cut into sizes to suit furniture making, wood turning and carving.
The feature timbers contain desirable characteristics including curly grain and birdseye, while the Goldfields timbers are very dense and possess a particularly magnificent colour and grain.
Regular public auctions provide the opportunity for local Western Australian artisans to purchase a unique range of assorted native timbers.
