Environmentally friendly flooring manufacturer, Style Limited (ASX: “SYP”), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the global flooring provider, Tarkett, to launch a new range of “green flooring” products based upon Style’s proprietary strand‐woven wood technologies.
Melbourne‐based Style announced today that under the agreement, Style will license its strand‐woven
technologies to Tarkett to manufacture and sell an innovative range of ecologically sustainable flooring across Tarkett’s extensive European distribution network.
Tarkett is a worldwide leader in innovative and sustainable flooring and sports surfaces, with worldwide sales in 2007 in excess of €2b. The Group has more than 9000 employees, 28 production centres, and a network of 50 sales companies worldwide.
“Tarkett grows its business in a sustainable way, both economically and socially for our different worldwide communities and respecting the environment. This partnership with Style enables us to enrich our range with a new sustainable approach in wood flooring,” said Patrick Mathieu, president of Tarkett Western Europe and World Exports.
“Today’s agreement will provide a major first‐mover advantage to Style and Tarkett in the new world of green flooring products,” Style’s chief executive officer, Peter Torreele, said.
“With mounting concerns about climate change, and hardwood becoming ever more scarce and expensive, Style’s technology is positioning its products as a genuinely responsible alternative to the current reliance on traditional hardwood floors,” Torreele said.
“This cooperation with a company of the scale, reputation and reach of Tarkett will help us to accelerate the time to market of our new breakthrough technologies. This project is still in the final stages of development to ensure a commercially viable product range tailored to Tarkett’s needs and thus will have no significant impact on our 2009 financial year results,” Torreele said.
