The Tasmanian Liberal Government is the strongest supporter of our forestry sector, and it is committed to its continued sustainable growth according to Felix Ellis, Minister for Resources Tasmania. Source: Timberbiz
He says that the Sustainable Timber Tasmania Annual Report for 2021-22 confirms that the plan to grow the industry is working, with the sector supporting thousands of jobs across the State, many in regional areas.
In 2021-22, STT achieved a net profit and total comprehensive income of $17.6 million, with positive cash flows and an underlying net profit of $3.2 million
This is STT’s fifth consecutive profit and is almost 90% higher than the 2020-21 result.
STT paid $1.17 million to the Tasmanian Government towards forestry initiatives and recommended a dividend of $1 million be paid in relation to the 2021-22 result.
STT produced nearly 1.4 million tonnes of wood over 2021-22, including more than 115,800 cubic metres of high-quality eucalypt sawlogs and more than 14,000 cubic metres of special species timber.
STT paid $105 million to 647 Tasmanian businesses across the sector, including $60.7 million to Tasmanian harvest and haulage contractors, and prepared more than 6,300 hectares for re-growing and sowed nearly 117 million seeds on harvested areas to regrow future forests.
As part of its broader activities, STT continues to work hard to protect communities from the impacts of bushfires, with the report confirming STT staff attended 25 bushfires and contributed more than 8300 hours of firefighting activities.
The government business enterprise also launched a Diversity and Inclusion Policy and Action Plan that has supported a 14 percent increase in female employment.
In another step towards greater diversity, STT secured funding from the Government’s ‘Supporting Women to Succeed Program,’ which enabled the development of a ‘Women in Forestry’ advertising campaign.
