In a sourced story that appeared in Daily Timber News on 8 May 2012 from the Star On Line, the summary referred to Ta Ann’s ecofriendly line being from its plantations in Tasmania.
“This is not the case as we do not own plantations in Tasmania but receive wood from Forestry Tasmanian (FT) from its PEFC certified forests,” said Alan Ashbarry, Media/External Relations, Ta Ann Tasmania.
“It is for this reason that we claim eco wood status and have worked hard to promote the certified nature of the wood.
“FT draws its wood from its State Forests that include native and planted forest. Ta Ann Tasmania can only peel billets of less than 70cm diameter meaning we can only use regrowth or plantation wood.
“At present only a small percentage is from plantation but this will increase over time as FT’s plantations mature and are managed to produce billets meeting our specification,” he said.
“Green groups have disputed our claims stating the timber is either old growth, world heritage value or high conservation value and not plantation. Therefore, while we dispute the OG, WH and HCV claim we are also keen to ensure that it is not a plantation only resource but from both managed native and planted forest.”
