Network Convenor Therese Taylor said she was delighted to include an award which specifically recognises the impressive work done by the state’s designers and makers using Tasmanian timber.
“The 2019 Tasmanian Timber Awards was a huge success and really showcased some of the excellence in our industry,” Ms Taylor said.
“This year we will recognise leaders across all sectors of the state’s industry from nursery to silviculture, harvesting, logistics, innovation and processing and of course, those who design and use our timber to create an end product,” she said.
“It’s really a whole of chain representation and celebration of their contribution to the success of the industry.”
Xsquared Architects Director, Alex Newman said the new award category is a great opportunity to acknowledge and promote the work being done locally with Tasmanian timber.
“Here in Tasmania, we are fortunate enough to have a wide and highly skilled architectural design community creating some outstanding projects with intricate and carefully detailed sustainably sourced Tasmanian timber,” Mr Newman said.
“It’s great this field of work will now be highlighted more broadly.”
Previous winner and CEO of MechLog, Jillian Aylett-Brown said the awards offered many benefits to not only elevate the profile of the industry but also to move it forward.
“The Tasmanian Timber Awards are as much about showcasing the industry as they are about showcasing individuals and organisations,” Ms Aylett-Brown said.
“We are an industry that has come of age and we should be very proud of our contribution to the economy, to training and employment, and best environmental practices for a renewable resource.”
Ms Aylett-Brown said MechLog’s industry profile had been heightened by its success in the 2019 Awards.
“We’ve certainly enjoyed increased media interest in MechLog as an environmentally responsible forestry company, and as a result we have been offered more opportunities to present our thoughts, perspective, and vision for our sector to industry groups, government, and the community.”
