The TFGA is a member of the Ministerial Advisory Council on Forestry. The Council discussed the matter and gave unequivocal support to the actions of the Minister and the Government to put Forestry Tasmania on a sustainable commercial footing.
“We have been longstanding supporters of the industry and FT,” TFGA chief executive Peter Skillern said today.
“As representatives of the private forest sector, we speak for the managers of about 23% of the total forest estate in Tasmania.
“We share the Government’s view that taxpayer funding of FT’s commercial operations should end and we agree that the state cannot afford to lose the forest management expertise that it has.”
