THE prestigious HIA-Boral GreenSmart Awards recognise the importance of environmentally responsible housing.
This year’s awards, held in Melbourne, acknowledged winners across Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, Queensland, Western Australia, the Northern Territory and the Hunter region.
The top award, the GreenSmart Home of the Year, was won by Victorian-based Beaumont Concepts and Ecoliv Buildings for its Wonthaggi project. Judges described this winning entry as a “sustainable, simple, beautiful and classy project”.
West Australia’s Right Homes took out the GreenSmart Project Home of the Year for its 9-star Carbon Neutral Home.
Northern Territory’s Garrett Homes won the GreenSmart Energy Efficiency Award for a well-integrated energy efficient home in a somewhat challenging area.
Craig Riddle from Living Green Designer Homes put the Hunter region on the map and took out the GreenSmart Professional of the Year for “walking and talking” green living.
South Australia’s Land Management Corporation won the GreenSmart Resource Efficiency award for its Lochiel Park Green Village project.
NSW Blue Eco Homes won the GreenSmart Water Efficiency Award for its Eco Home Winmalee project.
WA National Lifestyle Villages was the winner of the GreenSmart Community Development Award for its Tuart Lakes Lifestyle Village project.
HIA managing director Shane Goodwin said the HIA-Boral GreenSmart Awards were the pinnacle of environmentally responsible housing and recognised the growing contribution HIA builders were voluntarily making in making new homes greener and more liveable.
“The HIA GreenSmart program continues to play a significant role in keeping industry members and consumers aware of environmentally responsible housing,” he said.
The awards ceremony was held Friday at the MAIA Docklands, Melbourne.
