“Much has been achieved over the last 12 months and the election of Tammy Auld is exciting as the organisation goes from strength to strength,” he said.
“Tammy’s election is significant as she brings to the role the experience and energy required to lead our organisation and represent our industry to the members of state parliament, whether they be government, opposition or the cross-bench, as well as the wider business community of South Australia.
“The timber shortage experienced in the last year has reminded South Australia of the importance of its home-grown forest industry. Wood is an essential product for everyday life, providing timber for construction and furniture manufacture, pallets for transport logistics, paper for packaging and personal hygiene products amongst other things.
“Trees store carbon and offset emissions in other sectors throughout the state. Over the last year SAFPA has proven its importance in representing the industry, addressing short term challenges such as operating under the Covid-19 pandemic, with an eye to the future with its advocacy to halt the decline in tree-growing to ensure the long-term future of forestry in South Australia.” Mr Lamb said
Ms Auld praised Mr Lamb for his pivotal role in not only establishing SAFPA as a peak body in South Australia but also driving forest policy in South Australia.
“I’m excited to be elected as Chair to represent the forestry and forest products industry in South Australia. Forestry is a core industry and significant employer in South Australia and will be central to the economic revitalisation of South Australia,” Ms Auld said.
“As Governments look for opportunities to generate employment, South Australia is a focal point for investment and the forest industry provides a pathway for new, green and clean manufacturing here in our State, such as the $200 million of new investment in domestic fibre manufacturing in the South East with Timberlink’s CLT/GLT plant in Tarpeena and the recently approved Altus Renewables pellet plant.
“I am proud to have been elected by my peers to Chair the South Australian Forest Products Association at this exciting and challenging time for the sector, and look forward to working with government, industry and our communities to deliver on SAFPA’s vision towards growth and prosperity for South Australia,” Ms Auld said.
