Last week marked the 13th meeting of the Native Forestry Transition Group (NFTG), formed after the State Government’s decision to end native forestry by the end of this year.
FIFWA Chief Executive Officer Adele Farina said it was a strong turning point to have Minister Jarvis’ commitment to working with businesses moving forward.
“Minister Jarvis has agreed to work with FIFWA to develop a transition process from the current FMP to the new FMP, providing clarity and certainty for timber processors and buyers,” Ms Farina said.
“We see this as a positive step and welcome the commitment, with a collaborative approach being far more productive for both government and industry.”
Ms Farina said she hoped a committee or working group would be established, tasked with developing and communicating a clear transition process from the current FMP to the new FMP.
The committee would involve both government and industry representatives, which Ms Farina said was critical.
