Australasia's home for timber news and information

TWEG set to become one-stop-shop for authoritative bioenergy details

“It has been convened to help provide authoritative information to Australians on the great potential for bioenergy here, and the existing technology, economics, benefits and models being used elsewhere,” said Andrew Lang, convenor and website manager.
The group consists of people from countries actively developing bioenergy as a key source of renewable energy – Sweden, Canada, Austria, China, Germany, Spain, Denmark, India, Netherlands, Finland and New Zealand.
“Each of the group has particular expertise in aspects of bioenergy (including biofuels and energy from waste). They include people from the sectors of the bioenergy production, manufacturing, research and development, biomass supply and government policy development. Some have expertise in adjacent sectors, including carbon sequestration, sustainable forestry management, and carbon tax,” said Andrew.
TWEG is a full member of the World Bioenergy Association (www.worldbioenergy.org) and will provide links to reports from the WBA and other authoritative organisations.
“TWEG is not political or partisan (other than in pushing for better recognition of the potential of biomass-to-energy in Australia), and its information is independent and authoritative. Its website and newsletters will be the main conduit for this information.
“Any positive feedback on the website content or structure is welcome. Over the coming year it will be further developed, with occasional newsletters, extended links and a broader array of reports and information.
“One section of the website will carry a listing site for biomass-to-energy commercial services and equipment providers. It will be strictly limited to organisations that are specialists in one or other area of biomass-to-energy (including waste-to-energy and biofuels). Its intention is to provide those seeking biomass-to-energy services or equipment with an index of main providers.
“Listing fees will defray costs of the site’s establishment and management, and related activity. A nominal rate for initial listing to 30 June 2011 will be available soon. Please email on the page provided on the website if you are interested in a listing or in becoming a supporter of TWEG,” Andrew said.
