May 25 – 26: 3rd UK Biochar Conference
After the two previous successful events in April 2009 and 2010 that drew together a diverse audience of more than 100 biochar researchers and practitioners, the third conference will take place in the historical settings of the city of Edinburgh and will be preceded by an official unveiling of a new pilot-scale ‘specified biochar’ production pyrolysis facility at the UK Biochar Research Centre (UKBRC) on 24 May.
The overall purpose of the conference is to enable those interested or actively researching biochar to come together and exchange experiences and to learn of progress in the UK community from a inter-disciplinary perspective.
Conference registration and abstract submission can be found at: http://www.sccs.org.uk/biochar/Edinburgh-May-2011;
June 17 – 19: Gasification Workshop at ALL Power Labs, CA, United States
The quarterly workshop series at ALL Power Labs offers education, research reports and hands-on experience to bring more people to successful operation of small scale gasification and pyrolysis units. The event is open to everyone, not just Gasifier Experimenter’s Kit (GEK) or Biochar Experimenter’s Kit (BEK) users/owners. The workshop begins with a Friday evening talk on the science of gasification and pyrolysis, and the new engineering solutions embodied in the GEK and BEK. Both beginning and expert reactor assemblies will be presented, with pointers to further reading and opportunities in the field. Everyone will get a packet with lots of explanatory graphics and core data charts relating to gasification and pyrolysis. More information and registration at: http://www.gekgasifier.com/about/workshop.
September 15 – 18: 2nd Asia Pacific Biochar Conference, APBC KYOTO 2011, Japan
The Japan Biochar Association (JBA) and Japan Association for Human and Environmental Symbiosis (JAHES), in affiliation with Australia and New Zealand Biochar Researchers Network (ANZ BRN) and the International Biochar Initiative (IBI), are pleased to host the 2nd Asia Pacific Biochar Conference, APBC KYOTO 2011. The conference is open to all biochar researchers, users, producers, and supporters. The discussion topics will correspond to three major research themes:
-Education and diffusion methods of carbon sequestration by biochar
-The impacts of applying biochar to agriculture and forest soils
-Steps in the commercialization of biochar: lessons from the region
More information on the conference and submitting an abstract can be found at the APBC KYOTO 2011 homepage: http://apbc2011.com (click on the “Call for Abstracts” link and follow the instructions).
