Mr Humphreys was a pioneer and leader of the industry in East Gippsland. He was in his 52nd year sawmilling in the region.
During that time he ran five sawmills with 77 employees and processed 65,000 cubic metres of sawlogs annually.
As a former president of VAFI, and current executive committee member, he was a vital contributor to the forest and wood products industry.
There is no doubt that his passing will be felt throughout the industry, particularly the towns and communities in East Gippsland.
On a personal level Mr Humphreys will be remembered for his kindness, his sense of humour and his passion for the industry in which he worked for over half a century.
Mr Tim Johnston CEO of the VAFI said in a statement that we “are better off for having known him, and together we will continue to ensure his legacy in the industry lives on”.
