The Australian Home Heating Association (AHHA) has reported a first-quarter increase in wood-heater sales nationwide of 28 per cent, with an overall jump of 12 per cent compared to last year.
“I would say that increases in household living expenses in general have made people look at ways they can save money … including heating,” said AHHA general manager Demi Brown.
Brown said the sale of wood heaters increased significantly last year and sales were growing this year, albeit at a slower rate.
Ms Brown said the lower impact on the environment was also a factor in many people’s decision to buy a wood heater.
Jill Ames, from Heat ‘n’ Tint, said sales were definitely up this year, with people looking to make a saving.
“We’ve had several people purchasing wood heaters, as they realise the price of gas and electricity is going through the roof – and it’s going to keep going up,” she said.
